The site of the Old Palace was formerly occupied by the town residence of Generalmajor Ernst Bernhard von Weyler, Commander of the Artillery of the Electorate of Brandenburg, constructed between 1688 and 1692. His son, Christian Ernst von Weyler, who had settled in Vienna, subsequently transferred the property to Philipp Wilhelm, Margrave of Brandenburg-Schwedt, thereby adding another distinguished chapter to the history associated with the Weylerbourg name.
